Of music

How we find and recognize people who are on our wavelength is often through hints. The mysteriousness of a person hums in tune, or follows the path of the composer, as if I am not merely listening to their work but experiencing its meaning.

What is more blissful in life than finding someone who shares similar feelings toward the same rhythm? It’s like having an emotive connection with that person already, likely to resonate for the remainder of your shared life with them (if you’re lucky enough).

Not only can you solve life’s riddles through melodies, but sentiments that are rarely expressed can also be conveyed through music for spiritual satisfaction. Every piece of work, like any architectural design or artwork, is designed for a purpose. To please, to produce, or to create due to the tenuous relation to the lives of the producer, to scratch their own itch, so to say.

To be immersed and to have a glimpse of what a divine moment could possibly look like through music is a bold and adventurous act. Rhythm and harmony insinuate themselves into our innermost being, likely making a person content and graceful if properly nurtured. Having the ability to take pleasure in fine music and receiving it with the sharpest sense is a product of continuous practice.

Practicing to nurture and control the soul’s expression, characterizing oneself through sensuality guided by words, artifacts, and higher teachings by religions.

As I view music as a form of speech—without articulation or suppression of the soul’s raw passion—I find myself oddly disappointed when oftentimes I am directed toward someone’s commercial interests or untutored desires. I could easily be a fool, transformed by music that comes with an agenda, masquerading as some sort of reform, with a false sense of liberation.

It is old-fashioned and often lonely to say this, when everything around us is crafted into a commercially prepackaged fantasy, what I sometimes wish is to find a person who sees the disappointment I feel not as snobbism, but as a genuine concern for the wellbeing of the soul. I would consider myself extremely lucky to finally be guarded by the vision and courage to reject a world balanced—or made to balance—on a fulcrum of artificially produced desires.
